As the Life Sciences transforms into more data-centric discipline – the big “Data Biology”; It faces several challenges including lack of industry wide standards, data sharing capabilities, and finally the lack of talent pool, infrastructure and support. The goal of this Life Sciences CIO Forum is to address some of these issues.
Focus Groups:
1. Security & Privacy: headed by Mike Zill – CIO CareFusion
Privacy and security is a significant challenge for every Life Sciences/Health Care organization and a concern for everyone. The move towards automated health care system with electronic and personal health records, clinical data warehousing, and increased mobile applications and transparency means more data is at risk and needs review of industry privacy and security safeguards with creative solutions.
2. Quality & Compliance: headed by

On both a national and a global scale, the world of life sciences is enjoying tremendous growth, and the intertwined innovations in IT are creating a positive and growth oriented virtuoso cycle. The reach of enterprise, cloud and mobile computing will be far and wide. This group will build consensus and assist in creating an industry roadmap.
4. Internship: Valerie Kwiatkowski, CIO, ICU Medical – Dave Henderson – CIO Sequenom
The role of ICCG as a catalyst in growing the talent needed by the life sciences industry is the goal of this group. Creating and managing Internships is a workforce development goal and challenge focused on enhancing the talent pipeline for Southern California companies engaged in life sciences. The plan is to facilitate the placement of students and recent graduates who are considering career opportunities in the life sciences in paid/unpaid internships across Southern California.

The greatest challenge Southern California companies face will be developing, acquiring and retaining good talent pool of skilled workers. This group will focus on issues associated with this important aspect of corporate growth and strategy.
3. IT-Enabled Revenue Generation – Chaired by Bill Cortez – VP of IT at AMN Healthcare and Mark Yobra – CIO of Sybron Dental
Enabled revenue generation will be critical part of the mix for the web enabled service delivery model. This group will focus on issues related to IT strategy focused on revenue generation and enhancement.

Big Data is a topic on everyone’s mind. This group will focus on the benefits and challenges organization face when working to utilize Big Data
